My name is Sommer Ireland (she/her/hers), and while I've lived in 8 states, 1 federal district, and 2 European countries, I'll always call South Carolina home. I've been working in higher education since 2019 in both academic and student-life capacities. My two passions as an undergraduate student were studying abroad and my work as an RA, so I feel lucky to have worked in both study abroad and residence life for my professional career. Before Reed, I worked for Colorado State University in their University Housing department, and at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as an Education Abroad Coordinator.
I live on campus with my fiancé and dog Ocean. After work, Ocean and I go for our daily walk/run, and then I enjoy unwinding with a good book (typically fantasy), or watching an intense medical drama to remind me that my life could be much more stressful than it is! On the weekends, I try to take advantage of the beautiful nature of the PNW by either hiking, visiting the coast, skiing during the winter, or visiting wine country in the Willamette Valley. I also love traveling, astrology, tarot cards, and being an auntie to my nieces and nephews.
B.A. Economics and German, Washington and Lee University
M.Ed Education, Policy, Organization, and Leadership - Diversity and Equity Concentration, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Hi! My name is Keely Kerr (She/They). Before coming to Portland, I was born and raised in Southern California. I attended San Diego State University (SDSU), where I received my B.A. in Communication with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies and my M.A. in Postsecondary Education Leadership and Student Affairs. While a student, I also studied abroad in Jyväskylä, Finland, where I studied Refugee Resettlement and Integration. I began as an Academic Mentor and have since served in various roles in residence life, career services, cultural centers, academic advising, disability services, and more across San Diego State University, California Institute of the Arts, and California State University, Northridge before joining Reed. As a first-generation college student, I found my love for student affairs in guiding other students as they navigate their college experience and helping them feel a sense of belonging.
I live on campus with my cats Lucy & Ethel. And when I’m not working, you can find me playing board and video games, reading, baking, or perusing local art. I’m so excited to be at Reed and can’t wait to get to know y’all! If you’d like to meet or chat, you can schedule a meeting below or just stop by Aspen on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hi There, Hello!
My name is Megan Simón (she/her/hers), and I was lucky enough to have grown up right here in Portland, Oregon. I graduated from Portland State University with a B.S. in Social Sciences in 2022 and am now working on my masters degree in Educational Policy and Leadership. Before coming to Residence Life I worked at Reed in other capacities, both in the Student Life Office and the Office for Student Engagement. I also serve as the Director of where I am in charge of curating the organization's yearly educational opportunities and conference sessions.
I am excited about helping students successfully navigate processes and systems through advising, programming and project management. Throughout my career I have maintained a particular interest in accessibility and equity, working to facilitate conversations around supporting students with disabilities beyond the classroom.
I live with my husband, son, and our pets, Doodles and Mochi. For fun, we love taking road trips through eastern Oregon, playing cribbage, watching bad reality tv, and perusing the nearest record store.
Office Hours: Student Center 114, Every Wednesday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Your house advisor (HA) is one of the first people you will meet at Reed. These returning students are selected for their skills and interest in helping fellow students, and act as an excellent resource for questions about academics, campus life, and Portland in general. HAs also help to bring students together by organizing activities such as movie nights, pizza parties, study breaks, provocative talks, excursions around Portland, and trips to the coast or the Reed ski cabin with the students of their residence halls. At least one house advisor lives in every residence hall.
